With the most recent sneak peek being largely focused on the door open indicator inside of a train, a large amount of the community has been wondering if this is a small hint to a door system rework. In this article I look at the evidence that hints towards this, and the actual chances of this happening.
Why do we think this might happen?
A large amount of evidence points towards this, ranging from previous showcases to the most recent sneak peek.
The reason why this seems more possible than ever is due to how the most recent sneak peek is framed. The focus of the image is clearly the new door open indicator. In real life, these typically mean that the door can be opened with a button press, but it doesn’t open automatically.
This is the first and largest reason why we suspect this sort of update might be on the way. Typically, the first sneak peeks tease larger, new features that are upcoming in the update.

The SCR Prototyping Centre
It’s no secret that the developers have considered this before; In the SCR Prototyping centre, this exact feature already exists! Each door has a proximity prompt, allowing for individual opening of them.
This is another crucial piece of evidence that hints towards having these features added to the game! Furthermore, this could potentially also be showing guarding getting more interesting, as the system was also remade in the prototyping centre.
The problems with this
The main problem with this is… who would be opening the doors? Think about it – If the developers were to add this, each stop would essentially not open the doors at all, unless a player passenger was present. This would make the gameplay a lot more boring. They could potentially add NPC passengers to combat this just like British Railways has, however that seems unlikely.
Furthermore, having a door indicator doesn’t confirm anything at all.
We have seen this before, for example in the new Metro trains such as the class 777. We have flashing lights when the doors open and close, but these are still automatic. The automatic lights here make sense, as doors on metros typically are automatic, however this does show that nothing is guaranteed to be added just because of a light.
